Q/A with state track qualifier Kendrick Marks
May 5, 2021
Kendrick Marks had planned on going to the UIL state track meet this year. The Rider junior made his goal a reality when he took the gold medal recently at the Region I-5A Meet in Lubbock. Marks’ distance of 22 feet, 7.75 inches was almost three inches clear of the competition.
The Rider Chronicle sat down with Marks to discuss his recent accomplishment and his trip to Austin this week.
Q: How does it feel to be going to state?
A: Honestly, it doesn’t feel real. It feels like a dream come true.
Q: What were your goals going into the year?
A: My goals were just to make it past district, and I ended up going to state.
Q: What other sports do you play and how do they help you prepare for track?
A: I play football and basketball. Football has helped me build up my power because we lift so often. Basketball has helped me build endurance and gave me my strength in my legs.
Q: How are you getting ready for state and what are your goals for when you get there?
A: I try to run and lift a lot. There’s a lot of mental preparation, motivation and stuff. You just gotta put on for the city. That’s it.
