Parenting Problems

The shrill electronic cries of babies have filled the hallways these past months with their frantic parents of Child Development trying to care for them.

The electronic baby has the needs of a real baby; it has to be fed, rocked and have its diaper changed.

“Child development is intended to teach kids what they must improve on,” child development teacher Lola Pepper said. “Whether that be as a parent, caretaker, or sibling.”

Students such as Lauren Ogerly feel that caring for the electronic baby taught them multiple lessons.

“[My first night] I was woken up twice,” Ogerly said. “I definitely don’t want kids”.

Despite the troubles, students have had unique experiences caring for the babies.

“This one woman at Goodwill came up to me talking about how cute it was thinking it was an actual child,” Ogerly said. “She didn’t realize it wasn’t real until my mother pointed it out”.

Junior Alexis Guillory learned the hard way just how high maintenance the baby was.

“When I was driving home I was with my friend and she also had her baby,” Guillory said. “We had to pull over because they kept crying over and over”.

One lesson that Ogerly learned was that children require a lot of care.

“I learned simple things”, Ogerly said. “Feed it, burp it and of course to not break its neck”.

While some students were more prepared than others, Clay Greathouse discovered he had a lot to learn about becoming a parent.

“[The first night] was bad. It probably woke me up 14 times through the night,” Greathouse said. “I honestly wanted to throw it against the wall”.

Despite being woken up nine times during her first night Guillory enjoyed taking care of her baby.

“I was really sad when I had to give it back”, Guillory said. “Taking care of the baby was my favorite part of Child Development.”
