What to know about this year’s gala

March 8, 2022

After the success of last year’s prom, many students are excited to see what this year has to offer. Prom planning has been in the works with the help of junior sponsor Marina King, Lucas Hiranhphom and other junior class officers to make this year an “extravagant” night to remember.

For the second year in a row, prom will be off campus. Unlike last year, the location is The Event Center in Sikes Senter Mall on April 2 from 8-11 p.m. Tickets are $30 for singles and $50 for couples. They have been sold out on campus, but will be on sale at the door. The theme is “A Gala in Ancient Greece.”

Voting for the class of 2022 prom king and queen have also taken place.

As the junior class secretary who is graduating early, this is Hiranhphom’s last year at Rider and his first year helping with the planning process. There are big ideas in the works.

“I’m excited,” Hiranhphom said, “I love being extra and extravagant and can’t wait for everyone to see that.”

Even with some challenges finding a venue, it has all been figured out and the construction of the theme is going well with the help of the new art teacher, Jeremy Boren. There are high expectations for this year, and King expects a large turnout.

“I feel like I have a lot more kids asking about it, so there’s a lot more buzz and excitement,” King said.

A new comeback to this event that was taken away due to COVID will be snacks and refreshments.

Prom decorating will be similar to last year where helpers will have to set up the morning of prom. The junior class officers have been working hard to make this night even more special. While students are getting prepared for this fun night, King is ready for everything to fall into place.

“I’m excited about it being closer to normal than last year,” King said.
