Rider/ Old High Early This Year

Students Discuss Loss Of Game But Not Of Pride

Rider/ Old High week is a focus that includes the entire campus. From decorating the halls to riding on floats to the silent Fridays we all know as Mum Day. This is the one week out of the year that students are able to show off their Rider pride. Although it is frowned upon to not play pranks on the opposing team some students believe that it will just keep going on.
“The pranks are something that are bound to happen,” junior Lainie Tarrell said. “Some of them get out of hand, and you’d think that people would see that there will be consequences and wouldn’t take things too far but something always happens.”
For Rider it has been tradition to decorate the hallways on the first day of the week and on the last day of the week everyone stays quiet until the sound of the victory bell at the pep rally.
Senior Katie Palmore’s favorite Rider Tradition includes the participation of Mum Day.
“I like Mum Day because it gets the whole school focused,” Palmore said.
When it comes time for the big game, a full stadium makes for a charged game.
“They definitely get more packed than a regular home game,” Tarrell said. “They do get crazier every year, but I think the turn out gets bigger because of the new freshmen that are joining the current and previous students.”
This year the football game was early. Normally the rivalry game is in November.
“I noticed that last year people seemed to be more into it than this year,” Tarrell said. “This year it was different, I think, because the game was earlier in the season.”
On Oct. 3, the Rider Raiders were not able to make the five in a ROHO streak happen losing 36-50, but students are staying positive.
“It was kind of disappointing but we’ll get them next year,” freshman Landon Parks said.
Despite the loss, Tarrell believes the students should keep their spirits high.
“No matter what, win or lose, we need to stay One Family One team and keep supporting each other,” Tarrell said.
