“March 22 should be the final day to change classes for the fall semester, ” counselor Alice Rogers said. “Although there are always extenuating circumstances, which we will take into account.”

Students need to really think about if they want to get into pre-AP, or if they want to go into regular classes.

“If they are not in pre-AP, I would not recommend getting into it,” Rogers said. “If you are comfortable in pre-AP already, you should stay in pre-AP. If a student wants to try pre-AP that is fine, but they should know that it will be harder.”

Electives are a big deal, many students join the bandwagon and go into electives that all their friends are in.

“I would suggest something different to get into, something like Oral Interpretation, or Debate might be fun for students,” Rogers said. “I’ve noticed that students really like to get their opinions out, and these classes are perfect for that. Students can argue their point in a constructive manner without getting into trouble.”

Getting required classes out of the way sooner is recommended.

“I would not suggest leaving required classes until senior year,” Rogers said. “They might not like a class full of freshmen.”

Students that want to get early release need to “think about their future.”

“Many colleges would like to see a full set of classes for a high school student’s senior year,” Rogers said. “You shouldn’t ruin the look of your high school schedule with taking early release instead of a class.”
