At the start of the year it was a question and in most minds a doubt if prom would even happen. But prom is an event that COVID didn’t cancel.

Rider will be having its annual spring dance on April 24 at 8-11 p.m. at the Park Place Event Center. The theme is Enchanted Forest and ticket information is $30 for singles and $50 for a couple.

Senior Spencer Simons didn’t think that prom would happen since they canceled Round Up and The Happening.

“I figure maybe by the end of the school year it might get a little better, but I didn’t have any hopes or anything,” Simons said.

Junior class sponsor and prom planner Marina King said masks are required and she is uncertain if there will be finger foods. She also hopes that students will be more appreciative of the prom since last year’s prom never happened.

“This year it’s different, and I’m so grateful that we’re able to do it,” King said. “I really hope that kids come and that it’s a great memory.”

Senior Page Montgomery said she thinks having prom is a good idea and is glad the Class of 2021 will get the opportunity.

“I expect just a few hours of dancing and fun,” Montgomery said. “And just forget about our lives for a second and have fun with our friends.”

Planning a prom takes a while and is stressful. Most students don’t know what all goes into planning the event. King states that she compares planning a prom to planning a wedding.

“We have to work on a theme, we have to vote on a theme, we have to get graphic designs for tickets, for posters, for flyers, we have to think of prices,” King said.
